Truman Tackett with two of his three grandchildren
TRUMAN TACKETT
Truman Tackett attended all twelve grades in Wylie ISD and graduated with the class of 1964.
Truman began playing football in the 7th grade. It was then that Truman's teammates nicknamed him "Bull", a name many still call him today.
Truman played 4 years of football in high school and was selected all-district three of those years. His selection was unanimous on two of those years. Truman related, "I weighed only 120 pounds and beat out two other guys who weighed 220 and 290 pounds".
Tackett was offered scholarships to play at Ranger, Brownwood, and Cisco Junior Colleges, but declined them "because I got a good job with Safeway in Garland".
Truman has a son, Greg Tackett, who also played for the Pirates. Greg graduated in 1983. Greg and his wife, Renee, live in South Lake. Truman has tow grandsons, Dalton and Dylan, and a granddaughter, Stormy.
Tackett has lived in Wylie continuously since 1951 except for 1966 and 1967 when he was serving his country in Vietnam with the U. S. Marine Corps.
Tackett shared, "I love Wylie and consider it a real honor to have been inducted into the Wylie sports Hall of Honor".
